English for Academic Purposes (EAP) - 36 weeks

CRICOS COURSE CODE 117140E

Course Overview
The purpose of the EAP course is to provide students with academic English skills and language required to be successful in a Higher Education setting. The course is aimed at students of all disciplines and consists of 10 integrated skills units that develop academic language and critical thinking skills essential in academic contexts. Lecture skills are integrated which provide authentic practice in listening to lectures and note taking. Oral presentation preparation and delivery skills, essay (intro, body, conclusion) drafting/writing, skimming and scanning articles, paraphrasing and referencing are all individually taught and assessed throughout the course.

The EAP course is delivered over 3 levels (Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced) with each level spanning over 10 weeks. Intake is every Monday and upon arrival, all students are tested and placed in their appropriate level for optimum learning. The EAP course provides students with authentic experiences and provides ample opportunity to practice and master the language. As students improve their English language skills, they are able to “Level Up” (be promoted) to the next level. The course is designed with 30 standalone yet scaffolding units which are taught over 30 weeks and allows students join at any week. The formative and summative assessments are both conducted during each unit and students who join at any time are not disadvantaged for missing the previous unit.
